OPEN LINES LONGEVITY CENTER

OPEN LINES LONGEVITY CENTER

Pier Plaza  ·  Redondo Beach, California

By Jessica Galgano, PhD, CCC-SLP

Founder, Open Lines Longevity Center

For 27 years, I have sat across from people with neurological communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders who were doing everything right. They were showing up to their appointments. They were working hard. They were motivated in ways most clinicians only dream about – and they made real progress in the hours we had together each week.

But I also saw the challenges they experienced at home and in the community, settings less accommodating and forgiving than the space we shared during sessions. Their voices were sometimes lost at parties. The phone rang at inopportune times, distracting them from the activity at hand. Their grandchildren’s questions flew past them allowing little time to process an inquiry and respond.

It became increasingly apparent that these real-life dynamics required a more comprehensive and multifaceted approach. Merging my clinical experience with the latest research, I created a unique practice that transcends traditional care to incorporate elements of counseling, physical and cognitive rehabilitation, neuroscience, exercise, speech motor and cognitive-communication science, and mindfulness education.  Empathy underlies all aspects of this care, and well before the term “holistic” became a regular part of popular culture, we were doing it.

Over time, I have also come to recognize that even the most intensive programs – and we provide intensity at our current practice in New York City – yields best results when it is supported by consistent engagement and social reinforcement extending beyond the clinical setting into real-life environments, where an individual’s brain is challenged and skills are cemented between sessions. That environment has not existed. Until now.

I love the work I do and I believe in it. And I am thrilled to be able to offer such a meaningful and innovative program to people navigating Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke aphasia, early cognitive-communication changes, and the less obvious – but very real – concern of wanting to protect your brain as you age. Open Lines Longevity Center is the evolution of years of exceptional client outcomes fostered by our unique approach and further elevates holistic care to promote brain health and neuro-wellness in ways only the Longevity Center can provide. “Status quo” does not exist in my vocabulary.

That is why I built Open Lines Longevity Center.

What is the Open Lines Longevity Center?

Open Lines Longevity Center is a community-based neuro-wellness program at Pier Plaza in Redondo Beach. Its program runs four days a week – Monday through Thursday – in a light-filled, serene, restorative space overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is a place that draws you in and invites you back – and that is no small thing for a program built around consistent participation, where simply showing up matters enormously.

The program integrates intensive speech-language pathology exercises, cognitive, communication, respiratory-voice, and swallowing services with evidence-based technology, daily group education, and a genuine community of people who are serious about their brain health and committed to doing something about it. Participants have access to the THERA-Trainer Senso platform for balance and cognitive-motor training, POWERbreathe respiratory muscle training with real-time biofeedback, and BrainHQ auditory processing exercises. Also available are individual sessions with me, as well as with LSVT LOUD-certified graduate clinicians for people seeking additional personalized support and care. Daily group sessions, facilitated by our team, provide evidence-based education on nutrition for brain health, sleep, stress management, and mindfulness.

A brochure can not fully capture all that our center offers.

A day at Open Lines Longevity Center is organized and goal-driven, yet flows organically and varies day to day. A morning welcome begins the day, bringing participants and staff together to connect, review the day’s plan, and foster a sense of agency, ownership, and direction. Small groups then move through different studios, each of which provides unique experiences, activities, and conversations designed to stimulate the brain and engage each participant in a thoughtful, meaningful way. Games, along with both guided and informal conversation groups, are selected and adapted each day to meet varying levels of engagement and provide individualized challenges and support.

Lunch includes nutrition, educational content, and a blend of structured and informal conversation to support brain health and foster connection. The relaxation room, with recliners and guided mindfulness programming, provides space for rest and restoration – a counterbalance to the cognitive and motor demands of the other studios. The day concludes with an afternoon gathering where participants reconnect and reflect on their shared and individual activities, leaving with a stronger sense of purpose, accomplishment, and community than when they arrived.

Familiar faces come together four days a week and build something with one another that no amount of one-on-one therapy can replicate.

Who is the Open Lines Longevity Center for?

Open Lines Longevity Center serves two groups of people, side by side.

The first group includes individuals living with neurological conditions: Parkinson’s disease at any stage, post-stroke aphasia, cognitive-communication changes, mild cognitive impairment, or early frontotemporal dementia. They come because they need – and want – more than episodic care can provide. They come because four days a week of evidence-based activities and meaningful engagement in a dynamic setting can produce neuroplastic change that a lower intensity of care simply cannot. They stay because they find a welcoming space with programs designed with their needs, abilities, and potential in mind.

The second group is made up of people who are healthy, sharp, and determined to stay that way. They are in their 60s, 70s, and beyond, and they understand that good genes alone do not guarantee cognitive longevity. They know that brain health needs to be nourished and cultivated, and they see the value in making an investment in it long before they have any reason for concern.

Both groups are equally welcome at the Longevity Center. Both benefit from the experiences, community, and evidence-driven programs. The mix is intentional because it reflects a deeper truth: brain health is not something you begin pursuing after a diagnosis. It is a lifelong practice. And people engaging in that practice together, regardless of where they begin, make one another better.

You do not need a diagnosis to be here.

The Founding Member soft launch

Open Lines Longevity Center will open its doors to 29 Founding Members for its soft launch on June 15. This four-week program will run Monday through Thursday through July 10 at Pier Plaza in Redondo Beach.

As the first Longevity Center community, Founding Members will play a meaningful role in helping refine and shape the future of the program and its services. They will come engaged and ready to share their experiences and feedback as we make final adjustments and continue building the center’s culture and direction.

In our space overlooking the South Bay coastline, members will come together for a journey filled with shared and individual goals, partnership and encouragement, and a long-term investment in both themselves and the community around them. The center will provide opportunities, support, and clinically grounded engagement designed to build skills, confidence, and self-advocacy in ways that optimize brain health and promote meaningful, lasting functional outcomes that extend beyond the center and into everyday life.

There are two ways to join. Rise is the full program experience, offered two or four days a week. Shine adds to the program individual sessions with me or one of our LSVT LOUD-certified junior clinicians. All Founding Members will receive rates not available after July 10. These reduced rates are not introductory discounts. Rather, they reflect our gratitude for the trust, partnership, and contributions of those helping shape the Longevity Center from the very beginning.

Care partners are welcomed during the soft launch at no additional charge. They are a valued part of the community and are invited to participate in our group programming, educational sessions, and shared community spaces. They bring their own experiences, questions, and concerns, and they will have opportunities to connect with the Open Lines team, other care partners, and Founding Members in ways that provide support, insight, and practical tools to better support and nurture the neuro-wellbeing of the person for whom they care.

I built Open Lines Longevity Center knowing I would need to create a roadmap that didn’t already exist. I knew it would not be easy, but I believed in its potential.

The ocean is right there, the space is ready, the team is extraordinary, and the people who walk through the door on June 15 are going to help build something I have been imagining and planning for a long time.

Enrollment is now open. Space is limited.
