Cate is passionate about applying a broad yet focused approach to evaluating clients to gain a deep understanding of their unique strengths, needs, and goals. She applies this insight, along with her clinical expertise, to an evidence-based, collaborative framework that considers all aspects of a client—physical, psychological, emotional, and social—to design individualized therapy programs tailored to the needs of each client.
Through clinical work at a private elementary school and university-based outpatient clinics, Cate has evaluated and treated children with a wide range of challenges, including language-based learning differences, nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD), articulation and phonological disorders, autism spectrum disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, and ADHD. She worked closely with educators and other healthcare professionals to develop and strengthen literacy, executive function, and academic and social communication skills.
Cate also offers experience providing speech therapy services to adults in an acute care setting at Mount Sinai Hospital where she collaborated with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate and treat adults with acute neurological conditions. In addition, she designed, implemented, and provided training on AAC communication systems, and conducted bedside and instrumental swallowing evaluations to assess for dysphagia and identify diet modifications and strategies to support a safe and functional swallow. At Teacher’s College, Cate provided evidence-based therapy through programs for adults with aphasia and motor speech disorders, including Parkinson’s disease.
Cate’s commitment to individualized care that upholds the highest standards of clinical practice, along with her close collaboration and partnership with her clients and their care partners, empowers her clients to take on an active role in their recovery and helps them achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
